Journalling
Journaling to unravel recurring thoughts and ideas
We do not journal about what we know. We journal so that we know more and understand more – about ourselves and about the world we live in.
Do not think of journaling as writing down words only. You can use pictures, scribbles and words to jot down what you need to. Start by writing or drawing the ideas as it comes to your mind. As your pen starts gliding on the blank paper, it will start scratching the surface of the words and pictures you are scribbling down to find the deeper meaning beneath them. Some ideas are easy to hear, as it is communicated to us in a loud voice.
It is not new to us. What we do want to hear is how to find our way out of the maze of thoughts in our heads.
That is why we journal in silence, to hear the voices in between the loud and persistent words and pictures of our minds.
These voices speak their wisdom softly, and in the language of the body. They talk in colours, shapes, sounds and feelings. When we pay close attention to the messages will be translated to us into words. These words will automatically start flowing from the pen, or the message will find its way through a scribble, a picture, shape or colour.
Writing down the ideas known to us somehow grabs the attention of your whole being.
A to-do-list illustrates a straightforward example of how powerful this can be. Have you ever been procrastinating on a few tasks you had to do? I have experienced this quite often Until I create a to-do-list. The amazing thing to me is that suddenly, one after the other task gets ticked down, in a very short time. It is as if all the parts of me start getting a rhythm to complete the tasks fluently, like people working together instead of against each other.
We can apply this to many other issues in our lives. The act of writing, compared to sitting down to meditate, is a natural act for most of us. By becoming still and write, will come easy. If you then allow your thoughts to flow, the wisdom will start showing up on the paper. This wisdom comes from your deepest min, your body. It lies in your heart, in the vibration of your cells and the flow of your energy.
Some people can sit down, and the words flow naturally, while others need more structure to enter the wealth of wisdom stored in the body-conscious mind.
A lovely way to enter the high vibration of the body’s wisdom is to start journaling with gratitude. Gratitude will wake up the high-spirited parts of you that will guide you into an experience of happiness and sense of abundance.
In contrast, if you start your journaling with thoughts of anger, hopelessness and resentment, you will surely wake up all the ghosts of the past that will assist you to remember the shitty times and reaffirm your misery. Even when you need to find a solution around pain and confusion, start your session with 10-15 statements of gratitude.
Now you can start reflecting on your issue, and there are many ways of doing that without waking up the mourning millions in your head that will keep you angry, frantic and awake all night. The art is to become aware of a solution, not to aggravate your suffering. It is all about moving your mind in a new direction that seemed unavailable until now. It is about waking up to more there is in life.
End your session with a paragraph or at least a sentence that affirms the ‘aha’ that you got. Phrases that will lure your attention to the aha are:
