Chakradance and Healing

Angeles Arrien, an anthropologist, educator and author named “Music, Song and Dance” among four of the most powerful techniques when it comes to healing:

Natalie Southgate, the founder of Chakradance®, did an excellent job to unlock this secret as she researched the world over to find music and songs (script) to bring healing (balance) to each chakra. She applied the most appropriate music, wrote the script to accompany the healing. Now we invite you to take part in the dance that will bring healing(balance) to each chakra.

For the Base Chakra, the music from Africa, Australia and North America bring healing to the victims inside each of us. It connects you to the mother, the nurturer and restores your sense of belonging that links to our roots, survival and sense of grounding.

From the Middle East, South America and Hawaii come the music to heal the rescuer of the Sacral Chakra. As you surrender to your own fluidity and sensuality, the empress, the ancient goddess will arise to restore your sense of pleasure and ability to reign your life.

The masculine warrior dances of the Maori, ancient Morocco, Spain, Mexico and Brazil are powerful and virile, as they ignite the fire in the Solar Plexus. From these dances, your inner warrior will emerge triumphant and strong.

The dances from ancient Spain, Egypt and China will move you with lightness to bring healing to the actor in the wounded Heart Chakra. Anahata – the unhurt one, will emerge on this soaring journey of love compassion and joy.

Ancient Egypt, Hawaii and the Tibetan culture knew the art of entwining sounds and movement to bring healing to the Throat Chakra. This is one of the most imbalanced chakras in our western culture.

The dance of the Third Eye is the dance of the intuitive mind. Simple repetitive dances from South East Africa, the Middle East and the Americas will allow you, the dancer to drift into your own visual world of colours, shapes and insights.

At the Crown Chakra, it is your souls’ chance to dance. It is a meditative dance, a dancing prayer that will restore the wisdom that is suppressed by too much intellectuality.

The Freedom Chakradance

This is another excellent series of moving meditations designed by Nataly Southgate. She whole-heartedly believes that everything we need for a life filled with authenticity, vibrancy and freedom already exists within us. Sometimes we just need a map or a practice to guide us back to who we truly are.

And this is how she regards Chakradance:  a movement therapy practice which guides us back to the fullness of who we truly are.

In her own words, she designed Chakradance to helps us to reconnect with the wisdom of our bodies and deep inner instincts. We rediscover our passion, power and purpose. We release old hurts in our hearts and open to pure love. We reawaken our creativity, intuition and our imaginations, and we remember our spiritual connection.

Natalie selected music specially composed to resonate with each of the 7 major chakras, to revitalize, tune-up and rebalance our chakra systems. We dance with our eyes softly closed (or gaze lowered) as this helps us to connect with our inner world. Her perfectly compilated script will guide you into each dance with visualizations to help you access each chakra energy, and then you surrender to the music and find your own free movement and expression.

Over time, the music and dance will begin to balance your chakras.

In this workshop we will begin with a moving meditation called “white light”, before dancing each of the seven chakras, starting at the base chakra and journeying all the way up to the crown chakra.

The dance starts at the base chakra, Muladhara, allows known for the archetype of the mother. It opens up the ability to move freely in our own truth, to move freely in the patterns passed down in our families. It also restores a deep feeling of belonging and safety, and allows you to exist freely.

The dance of the sacral chakra, Svadisthana opens up the knowing of the Empress. As you open up to this archetype through dancing, you reclaim your freedom of fluidity, the ability to go with the flow without giving up pleasure. In this knowing, your creative ability is restored.

Knowing the sacral chakra, Manipura, allows you to enter the seat of personal power. This masculine energy of the warrior releases your internal sun and fire, that gives energy to your whole being.

Anahata, the deep knowing of Love. This knowing allows you to love like Lovers, without labelling, judging, comparing or asking Why? Anahata knows how to love free of pain, "unhurt", learn you to forgive and to have compassion for yourself and others.

Vissudha, the throat chakra, opens up the untold story inside of you. Remembering this story, can have the same effect as a singer that is able to break a glass with his/her voice. This is the midpoint of self-expression where you restore your ability to sing the song of your soul to the world. It is immeasurably powerful.

Ajna, the knowing of how to see clearly. This knowing allows you to and balance between your intellect and your intuition. It allows you to see beyond and with greater understanding.

The dance ends at the crown chakra, Sahasrara, and is your key to spirituality. In this dance you get to know the Universal light and our deep wisdom. Here you will open up to a healing sense of oneness.

Chakradance, the Earth Chakras

Origin of Spiritual Growth

What are the earth chakras?

Think spirituality, and you think higher chakras, the love of the heart, speaking your truth, seeing beyond the physical and the wisdom of the crown chakra. The truth is, that while you do not have a solid foundation in the earth chakras, you will never bring your higher chakras to true potential. It will be similar to growing a tree with huge branches without providing ground for the roots to grow.

In Chakradance, we understand and honour the importance of grounding, and each session is a meditation through all three chakras before we move on to the higher chakras. In this way, we build to have a powerful experience each time, regardless the chakra that is focused on.

These chakras require grounding, the very act of getting out of your head, and into your body where the earth, water and fire is waiting to be set free to serve your earthly and spiritual existence.

I refer to the lower three chakras as the earth chakras. They carry the elements of earth, water and fire. These elements allow us to find a solid foundation in ourselves, our relationships and the way we express ourselves through finding purpose in life.

The root chakra brings us solidity, stability, focus and form.

The sacral chakra introduces us to difference, movement and change.

The solar plexus chakra merges matter and movement into a spark of personal power that brings transformation.

To thrive on all levels of life, we need be grounded and connected to the caring, nurturing and healing energy of the Great Mother with her soil, waters and fire.

Root Chakra – the home of the mother

Think roots
Feel solid ground beneath your feet.

Taste nurturing
Smell the richness of the earth.

This is your mother, your earthly guru, your nurturer. It is not what you have, it is what you are. Your body is your personal piece of earth to transport you on your journey, just like the earth transports us, her earthlings, through space and time. She takes your focus down into this earth, where you are rooted. There you will find
stillness, security and stability. In the presence of your body, you will find freedom and wisdom.

A victim stands opposite to the mother, and seeks fulfilment in achievements, in things and relationships. The victim is always on the short end of life, and at mercy of others and circumstances that fail to provide adequately. It becomes ignorant of the treasure of the earth in its own body.

The victim needs to wake up, to take responsibility for the self, hold the key to transformation in her/his own hand. By changing your thoughts from how others or circumstances control your fate, to:

  • thoughts with a broader perspective on your life and
  • seeing where you can start making changes to improve your life
  • look out for opportunities rather than loss, balance can be restored to this chakra.

Sacral Chakra – the home of the Empress

  • Solid becomes liquid
  • Unity splits into duality, and stillness holds a pulsation, movement - you are alive!
  • The empress reigns over the ever changing dance of polarities
  • Form finds direction through the sweetness of passion and pleasure
  • Consciousness and change merge into growth

This is a female energy and belong to all, regardless of gender. The empress is at play when one that can appreciate duality, opposites and change, with the good it brings. The waters inside the body obeys emotions and sensuality in the same way the ocean obeys the stand of the moon. It brings a life filled with a sense of joy.
and he/she has an appetite for the sweet things in life. The element of water carries this attitude of ease in the same way we witness a river flowing with ease and without obstruction.

Martyrs sacrifice their lives to take responsibility on behalf of other people, or for the sake of a good cause. This happens because they do not believe they deserve or own the goodness in life without paying something in return. It is like stumbling blocks in the way of water that is flowing free. In order to reclaim the life filled
with pleasure, the martyr needs to give him/herself permission to be:

  • prosperous and live in abundance
  • free, and living with ease, pleasure and well-being
  • sensual and delightful.

Solar Plexus – the home of the warrior

  • Power
  • Purpose
  • Expanding
  • Passion becomes strength, committed to the core

In the solar plexus our passion burst through the layers of mother earth and her waters, as the flames of our passion reach through passion and yearning to find determination, purpose and action. See the warrior, emanating from the solar plexus, as the torch of light ignites the power throughout your whole being. Power is
only possible when there is consciousness(light) and movement(fire).

When we are repressed in this chakra this chakra, we do not respect our basic worth, forever the servant, toiling to make a living.

The servant needs to be awaken by the light of consciousness and
· self-esteem
· self-acceptance
· allow his/her own healing and growth while moving towards purpose.

As we move through all seven chakras, the fire of this chakra with its power of combustion will drive that movement.
Without the first two chakras, this chakra will not have substance, and the fire will die soon.

7 Keys to freedom - Chakradance Pretoria

7 Keys to Freedom - Chacradance PretoriaWRITTEN BY ELSI MEYER ON 30 APRIL 2018

Chakradance Pretoria ... the dance that integrates the vibrational blocks of our psyche through music, movement and mandala work. The music, well researched by Natalie Southgate, a psychotherapist, dance us all the way to the inner knowing of our higher selves, addressing the deep needs of the psyche. It creates an experience beyond any reasonable understanding and opens up a deep knowing that frees us from the many limitations in life, that keeps us forcefully custody through disruptive emotional states such as anger, fear and depressive moods. This integrating experience starts when the mind, the body with all the senses and the ability to feel through emotions are involved. It is artfully done by each well researched and skilfully assembled Chakradance session. Each Chakradance Pretoria session is a unique journey that will take you to the magical wisdom of each of the 7 major chakras. The dance of the base chakra, Muladhara allows knowing concerning the Mother archetype. It opens up the ability to move freely in our own truth, to move freely in the patterns passed down in our families. It also restores a deep feeling of belonging and safety. The Chakradance of the sacral chakra, Svadisthana opens up the knowing of the Empress. As we open this archetype through dancing, we reclaim our freedom of fluidity, the ability to go with the flow without giving up pleasure. In this knowing, we restore our creative ability. Knowing the sacral chakra, Manipura, allows us to enter the seat of personal power. This masculine energy of the warrior releases our internal sun and fire, that gives energy to our whole being. Anahata, the deep knowing of Love. This knowing allows us to love like Lovers, without labelling, judging, comparing or asking Why? Anahata knows how to love free of pain, "unhurt" to forgive and to have compassion for ourselves and others. Vissudha, the throat chakra, opens up the untold story inside you. Remembering this story can have the same effect as a singer that is able to break a glass with his/her voice. This is the centre of self-expression where you restore your ability to sing the song of your soul to the world. As we involve in the dance of Ajna or the third eye, we open up to knowing how to see clearly. This knowledge allows us to find a balance between the intellect and our intuition. The final dance, the dance of the crown, or Sahasrara, is the key to spirituality. In this dance, we get to know the Universal light and our deep wisdom. Here we open up to a sense of oneness.
